So the venue was a cute little place - with chandeliers and everything! It was my first time seeing a show there so it was a treat for me.
Set list is as follows (and was played as written):
-Eyes Wide Open
-Writing to Reach You
-Love Will Come Thru
-As You Are
-BEautiful Occupation (still love it!)
-All I Wanna Do is Rock
E: 20 - Unplugged
E: Flowers in the Window
E: 3 Times and You Lose (second time!)
E: Why Does it Always Rain on Me
So we got a reprise of 3 times, which was nice, but my favorite part had to be Fran's explanation of "My Eyes" tonight.
"So this song was written about 9 months before he came....and about 4 weeks after I came."
Aaaahh…my long awaited first Travis gig. And unquestionably not the last. I had the pleasure of meeting two other boardies: heyjude and ricv64-who were kind enough to save a spot in line for me and a friend as we unfortunately had midterms and labs up until 5 pm. After waiting a bit the doors opened and we rushed in to secure a good spot. And boy did we- second rowish right between Dougie and Fran…more towards Dougie. It kind of sucked that there was a barrier so we couldn’t go right up to the stage (ric informed us that it was not there last time). Other than that the venue was amazing. A little ball room, chandeliers, velvet draped walls; it all created a very nice ambiance.
Maximo Park was a good opener. They had a lot of energy. Set list for is already written so I won’t re-write it. The rocky entrance was great. Some highlights:
-Re-offender was great to hear
-Andy rawking out in his guitar solo in As You Are
-Andy crowd surfing during All I Want to do is Rock
-Beautiful Occupation was another nice touch
-Dougie and Fran leaning on each other during Closer
-Fran’s mad jumping skills
-Dougie’s smiles and eye contact (what more can I say?)
- 20 unplugged was more amazing than I could have ever imagined (although the drunkard shouting as Fran was telling everyone to shush was really disrespectful)
-Of course, shouting Claus during Good Feeling
- 3 times and you lose was great to hear (one of my favorites)
-And last but not least, Fran’s introduction to My Eyes: This song was written about nine months before he came, and about four weeks after I came.
The boys interaction with the crowd was exceptional and the crowd gave a lot back. It was also great that they were nice enough to chat with us after the show. Missed Claus, Neil came out pretty early, just barely caught him as I had been waiting in line to buy a t-shirt. The boardies and I, and several others, waited for an hour or so longer and just as we were about to give up Andy, Dougie, and Fran all come out at once. Got autographs and pictures and got to chat for a bit. Travis is just too good to their fans. I can’t thank you guys enough for the most amazing evening. I went to sleep with a smile on my face and I’m still grinning from ear to ear. Can’t wait for the next round of touring-I will be there :D Cheers.
